Kyoto,
Japan
Photo Gallery by Frantisek Staud
Kyoto was Japan's capital and the Emperor's residence from
794 until 1868. It remains a living museum with graceful geisha walking down
the cobbled lanes of Gion, serene rock gardens of minimalist shapes, Buddhist
monks chanting sutras in the darkness of one of 2000 secluded temples. Seventeen
of Kyoto attractions were designated UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites.
